5 Steps To Take To Avoid Damaging Your Windshield This Summer

If you don't want to shell out money to fix up your windshield this summer, you are going to need to engage in some preventative measures to ensure that your windshield doesn't get damaged.

#1 Take Care of Your Windshield Wipers

Old and damaged windshield wipers can actually damage your windshield, as can dirty windshield wipers. That is why, if you want to take care of your windshield, you need to make sure that you are taking care of your windshield wipers.

Avoid your glass getting damaged by lifting up and cleaning your windshield wipers when you clean your windshield. Remove nature debris that can get caught up on your windshield wipers before using them.

If you notice that your windshield wipers are getting worn out, replace them at your nearest auto parts store.

#2 Keep Your Windshield Clean

One way to protect your windshield is by keeping it clean. Keeping your windshield clean will allow you to see clearly and avoid damaging situations on the road. A clean windshield will also help remove debris that could be damaging to your windshield, especially if rubbed in by your windshield wipers.

When you clean your windshield, use a microfiber cloth that will not rough up the class. Avoid using any abrasive cleaners, such as a sponge, which could rough up and damage your glass.

#3 Be Mindful of Cleaners

When you clean your windshield, you also need to be mindful of the type of cleaner that you use on your windshield. Do not use any harsh chemical cleaners on your windshield that are not specifically designed to be used on car windows.

#4 Be Careful with Your Door

You may be surprised to learn that slamming your vehicle's doors can actually impact your windshield. Repeatedly slamming the doors on your vehicle can jar the windshield out of its tracks and even damage the glass in your doors as well. If your glass already has a small crack in it, slamming your doors can add stress to the crack and cause it to grow. When you get in and out of your vehicle, take your time and properly close your doors with as little force as necessary.

#5 Watch Out for Temperature Changes

Extreme temperature changes can be damaging for your windshield; they can cause cracks to form. In the summer, if possible, leave your windows cracked to allow for air circulation and to keep down the temperature inside of your vehicle. Park in the shade whenever possible.

If your vehicle has been baking in the sun, open up the windows and allow the glass to cool down for a few minutes before you start blasting your air conditioning. This will ease the temperature transition for your windshield.

Take care of your windshield this summer. Keep your windshield and your wipers clean, use microfiber clothes to clean your windows, and avoid harsh cleaners. Be gentle with your doors and mindful of temperature changes as well. These steps can help keep your windshield, and all of your auto glass, in good shape, which will hopefully help you to avoid the need for auto glass repair.
